U.S., Europe Near Climate Compromise

Nobel Peace Prize laureate Al Gore

(CBS/AP) The U.S. and Europe headed toward a compromise solution Friday at the U.N. climate conference, breaking a deadlock over how ambitious the goal should be in negotiating future cutbacks in global warming gases, the German environment minister said.

To effectively cut down global emission of greenhouse gases, we may require strong stipulation and guidance together with adequate education for our next generation.

The new Agreement may well serve as a supplement or successor of the Kyoto Treaty, which again demonstrates the apparent determination and consensus among member countries for resolving the issue. This is however only step one which is more like a show of gesture, compliance to this Agreement is what that it takes to improve the situation.

We all hope this initiative pay off eventually.
