Google Unveils Payment Service

Google Unveils Payment Service, Challenges PayPal With Electronic Wallet For Online Shoppers - CBS News.

Another prominent service from Google, called Google Checkout, is unveiled. Hopefully it can be proved secured as I foresee it as a very promising step towards the era of e-commerce.

With the prime reputation of Google and the popularity of Google accounts, if Google can prove itself to be a save hub for credit cards information, it may break the ice and attract the a number of account holders to start purchasing online, their behaviours will give confidence to their peers who will subsequently register for service also. The process is actually a snow ball effect resulting in a vast increase of online transactions. (Especially in the area of Asia).

Hopefully online transactions can become more popular, the phenomenon will be beneficial to not only me but all the internet users around the world.

China's Baidu to offer blog service

China's Baidu to offer blog service | Tech News on ZDNet.

Start to feel as if the products offered by giants are no longer innovative. A big website site baidu can definitely do better than a mere blogging serivce, and using the word “space” gives the audience an impression that it is a plagarism of MSN Spaces.

Lets do something proprietary to the Chinese culture, something that foreign companies cannnot imitate easily.

Lament for a Large Population

Got this piece of news from Google News RSS. A large population in the Mainland may provide abundant supply of workforce for large scale constructions and development for the country. But a relatively poor education and medical supplies (especially in the rural area) induces a real problem. A retarded baby in every 30 seconds is yet another stunning figure to which the Government must ponder and confront.

Hope for future of giant panda

BBC NEWS | Science/Nature | Hope for future of giant panda.

Fears that the giant panda is on the brink of extinction may be unjustified, research suggests.

Scientists believe populations have been underestimated in past surveys and there may be as many as 3,000 pandas left in the wild.

It is good news to the world. At least one of the beautiful creatures from God can be preserved. Tigers and pandas are both gifted species with charming appearances. Unfortunately both were being intensively hunted. Time for human to ponder about preservation of the Nature.

It should be a good thing for him, especially when Microsoft is facing severe challenges from Yahoo and Google, taking Microsoft with large lead ahead of the others is no longer as easy as before.

Obviously Gates has created a marvelous legend in modern business, his successful experience will definitely remain as a guide for future entrepreneurs.

Are you an accidental entrepreneur?

Weblog - Enterprise - Times Online: Are you an accidental entrepreneur?.

Coincidentally similar things has been told about software development in phopicking blog. It is very ironic that quite a number of successful business or amazing software are started up without a concrete planning and forecasting.

I would like to have some plannings though. Starting up something is a demostration of your enthusiasm and a great opportunity to learn more about project management. But with a full time job it becomes much harder, as time goes one only those with absolute faith and endurance can ride out from the storms have their businesses sustained.

Polar Bears May Be Turning to Cannibalism

Polar Bears May Be Turning to Cannibalism, Longer Seasons Without Ice May Force Polar Bears to Turn to Cannibalism, Scientists Say - CBS News.

Yet another consequence of greenhouse effect. Some can hardly be imagined. Films like The Day After Tomrrow have clearly expressed the possible outcomes of abnormal climates due to environmental destructions.

HK Goverment is now advocating BYOB and to lessen plastic bags consumptions. As simple as such task is so hard to gain popularity and public-wide support, can we possibly anticipate a sustainable future?

Let the ice on both poles to melt, and polar bears and penguins will live together on our lands. Cut down all the trees in tropical forests, then lions, tigers and vultures got no where to go but our cement forests. Keep on destructing man, the end of time may come sooner than you imagine…

RSS Round Up and the Rich Internet

RSS Round Up and the Rich Internet | The Universal Desktop | ZDNet.com

As much as I like these two concepts, the combination for the leverage of both utilizations is yet to be seen.

RIA can be achieved by AJAX or some solutions like Flex. It is an inevitable trend that web based applications have to be more user friendly. As a matter of fact, I think user friendliness will become a key factor of investment in sharpening the competitive edge of a service. (Just like we invest in sales and helpdesk staff now).

RSS is a real technology for each individuals to interact with the web: to cite others’ blogs, to post replies easily, to backtrack ping others’ passages to increase the hyperlink relationship, and to keep yourself constantly updated about what’s going on. I don’t know if domestic users can understand the concept but I do think it will take some time. And in the area of IT, when things take time it can become uncertain.

Both My Yahoo and MS Live.com are doing similar RIA things as personal portals with RSS capabilities. From an absolute user point of view I would like everything about me to be on the same desktop instead of checking from different portals, so I would rather check emails using Outlook Express or Outlook. There being the case I usually use client side RSS readers too. I may want to have online calendar stuffs, but I am concerned about the security issue of personal information. So to gain popularity for a product all the way, the problem is in fact not a technical one.

Adobe to Microsoft: .pdFU

Good Morning Silicon Valley: Adobe to Microsoft: .pdFU.

I would do the same thing if I was Adobe… PDF is popular enough, it would help no further by allowing Office 2007 to output in its format. On the contrary, PDF format should be a powerful weapon for Adobe to extend her business and to introduce other charged lucrative services.

Giving Microsoft the full power to save as PDF sounds like surrendering the only weapon to a giant, who may eventually get even stronger to acquire Adobe herself. Can it ever happen? Who knows?
